Character Profile

Jason seems like the usual dumb country boy type at first and mostly he is. He really is. He jumps into situations before he can think (if he can think) and pretty much lets his dick lead him from one bad situation to the next. But he has settled down some in that regard and has come to value his family (or his sister at least) more. He is very gullible and earnest and though his heart is in the right place most of the time he can be convinced of just about anything, as evidenced by his downward spiral with the anti-vampire church.

He often tries to take the easy way out of things, attempting to blackmail Andy into making him a police officer without having to take the test or any training. He also allowed himself to be used by the church and the reverand's wife to further their anti-vampire agenda just so that he would not have to make decisions for himself, finding it easier to unquestioningly follow someone else.

It was only recently that Jason's character began to develop after the debacle with the werepanthers and Sookie's disappearance, where he applied himself to become a fully fledged police officer and appears to sleep around much less. Although that did not stop him from beginning a relationship with his best friend's (ex)girlfriend, Jessica, which ultimately resulted in him losing his friend. Though he's known for making poor, snap judgments and decisions, he eventually comes around to the right way in the end (ending the relationship with Jessica and telling Hoyt the truth, telling Tara the truth about Eggs, leaving the church, etc).

Even though hes impulsive, rash, fairly retarded and an all around five year old in a man's body, he's still dependable in an emergency because of his ability to act quickly (he was responsible for engineering a way for Sam to escape during the Maenad incident).

Notable History

Jason goes through several character arcs during the show, beginning with his proximity to a string of murders in Bon Temps that lead him to be a prime suspect. The victims are three women that he has slept with and his grandmother. Though his name is cleared when the real killer is caught, his reputation is damaged. He then joins the Fellowship of the Sun church under the counsel of reverend Steve Newlin, which is an organization devoted to the destruction of vampires. He quickly rises in the ranks and eventually ends up sleeping with the reverend's wife, Sarah Newlin. He ends up leaving the church when Sarah, believing Jason has betrayed them, assaults him. With a paintball gun. When he returns to Bon Temps, he kills Eggs (Benedict Talley, Tara's love interest), believing he is attacking Andy Bellefleur. Jason is visibly shaken by the murder and hallucinates people with bullet holes in their heads for some time. Andy takes the fall for the murder and the town praises his good deed because Eggs has taken the blame for all of the deaths caused by Maryanne. Jason becomes jealous of the attention Andy is receiving and blackmails him into letting him into the police force. Meanwhile, he pursues Crystal Norris as a love interest, who turns out to be a v-addicted werepanther who ditches him for Felton, her arranged werepanther marriage, leaving Jason responsible for the town of Hotshot and all of its starving (werepanther) inhabitants.

Around this time his sister, Sookie, disappears for a year, during which time he becomes a fullfledged police officer and has been taking care of Hotshot for the entire duration. On one of his visits to Hotshot after Sookie returns, he is jumped and held captive for a period of time during which he is bitten repeatedly to "turn" him into a werepanther, and then raped by several women. He escapes when he refuses to have sex with a 12 year old girl, whom he convinces to free him. Jessica and Hoyt find him on the side of the road and Jessica heals his wounds by feeding him her blood, causing him to experience sex dreams about her...and Hoyt. Some time after, Jason helps free the town from a crazy homicidal witch and sleeps with Jessica. A lot. Hoyt punches him. Then Steve Newlin shows up a newly made vampire and confesses his totally gay love for his balls. He's now in the midst of trying to find out which vampire killed his parents using Sookie's special fairy powers. ~

Unique Attributes

No supernatural abilities, though it's been theorized that his success with women (and gay men...) is due to his fairy ancestry. He's athletic and proficient with firearms, so is capable of defending himself to a degree.

Fears & Discomforts

death dying and dismemberment. getting raped by a pack of redneck were panther ladies?

Suitability

True Blood is a thriller/urban fantasy/horror/paranormal drama series that focuses around the politics of "out" vampires functioning in human society. It features mature themes such as graphic violence, torture, overt sexuality, sexual abuse, character loss, more graphic violence, and more sex. Jason's character specifically participates in more than his fair share of the violence and sex.
